Dear all ,

It's been a turbulent 2008 for me , am good it's all gone right now. A brand new chapter will start , a brand new life will begin.

I am fortunate enough to have the people in my life , the things that i was blessed with , my career and definitely the support that I've always gotten from my friends.

I would like to say thanks a million for everything that ever happened in 2008 that build me to be who I am today. Lucky to say it turn me into a more open minded , considerate and thoughtful person. That's how a person grow to be better.

Nothing much is new except a NYE celebration at the beach side , calm breeze and then DENSE FOG. There wasn't any fireworks celebration with the attack in the GAZA strip .

As all of you have known me as a car enthusiast , I love to do a lot of DIY work. Partly because I cannot afford expensive tuner shops back then =). Until it cultivated me into an anal retentive guy who really need to make sure whoever that works on my car does it right.

My New Project car is finally here , albeit that the Z is gone. ( Of course she will be missed with all the sideways no traction action).

Where now comes a totally different car I've ever owned , a car with supreme traction all wheel drive and a turbocharged engine that will make sure you stay in your seats .

The Subaru WRX STi , first of it's kind in my collection because it's the 1st 4 door car I've ever owned.

Then comes the layman term of driving impression. 350z VS STi

350z

Low and mid-range torque is marvelous with the 3.5 liter engine
although it is a rwd , the TCS and VDC control are mediocre comparing it with other available system out there but it did save my friend's ride in the snow back in Wichita
straight line acceleration is good for city driving but not on the drag lane
Going to 200km/h without downshifting is easily attainable while cruising , all you have to do is stomp your foot pedal to the metal

STi

Only makes you smile above 3500rpm
Low end and mid range is just ok since it's a 2.5 liter engine only
Once the boost comes in , it can be tricky to get a good line especially on slaloms.
high potential for more horsepower
Best added bonus is the ability to fetch your friends ( boatload of them =) )
The amount of aerodynamics on this car is amazing , u get all this winglets etc even on the front bumper and side mirrors.

All this writing bores me , so let's have the picture do the talking.

The interior seats with the STi embroidery , really suck compared to the Evo Recaro seats.

The gauge clutsters are amazing since they operate on stepper motors , it gives you a cool welcome greeting like the DEFI BF series gauges.

The interior is not that great compared to the Z , and so is the radio ( but who needs them anyway when you're at the track ) . * Please ignore the plastic on the pedals as I've forgotten to pull them out when i took her out from the show room*

Emirates department Go-Kart Challenge

Since Dubai is quite boring after sometime , I'd like to share with all of you my experience in the Dubai Autodrome g0-kart circuit . It was a Emirates company event and the track lay-out is as pictured above. Very nice smooth tarmac and professional track management by the marshals.

Around 20 people turn up for the event and we had a back to back race of 4 races , which includes 1 qualifying and 3 race (~20 mins each race) . Pretty hardcore especially if you have a bad back like me.

Had quite a fun time , especially knowing one of our new joiners Sally from UK is a speed demon ( taking the perfect lines , and accelerating so well)

This is my shy shy S.V.P. son who came to see the race.

My SVP , his kart has some technical failure which the brake lines snapped and he went on full speed to hit the tire barriers. Thank god he is alright or it will be a disastrous event.

LookeyLookey , the shiney shiney Underdrive pulley kit for the Z , was lazy to do the install hence sent it to the workshop since i have to put the denso iridium plugs in , the plenum spacers , and get an oil change and radiator flush.

Initial driving impression:

Throttle feel much more responsive. Surge of rpm climb is noticebly faster . Could probably shift the powerband of the car but with so many parts going in at one go I didn't know which one was contributing to this new found response , torque and hp.

That's why it's better to modify things one at a time but oh well i'm lazy hence i just plonk in everything.

Total performance? Still am waiting for the ECU to recalibrate the fuel maps and ignition maps for the new parts. A good 7 days there will be feedback on this product again.

My 1st property

I always hear a lot of people would say how they cannot afford to start buying their first property. No matter how they would niche their salary they would still think it is not enough. One useful advise I've ever gotten is that no matter how much you have you could still afford something in a different area.

Although the money paid for this unit can very well buy me a 3 storey landed property but the convenience and security is taking an upper hand advantage with condominium here. They allocated card slots that enables u to only stop at your own floor and not anyone else which is good as my mom will come in to stay once in a while since I'm in Dubai.

The place is located in Bandar Utama , Bkt Utama to be specific and nicely situated on the 16th floor. The pictures doesn't do justice but at night from the balcony you have a perfect view of the KL city scape with direct look at the KLCC and KL tower.

It's rather bare right now and would like to decorate it Balinese style and make a hang out place at the balcony. So me and my boys can just hang out in my place the next time rather than to think of a place to go to in KL.

It's a 2200sq/ft unit with 4 bedrooms and all this sum up to almost 7 digit package.

Here are some pictures of it as of 2 weeks ago. As of now it's undergoing some surgery to make it more of a chill out space.

And for those who likes golf * you know who you are* , there is a 9 hole golf course right downstairs =)

Well am bored and just want to write about some of the stuff I have lying around in my room.

When I went home I picked up a few accesories to juice up the Z. Found this from SSracing in Old Klang road. Nismo FTW !!

Before I left to KL , i joined a go-kart challenge organized by a colleague and got a price for the fastest lap of the day in Dubai autodrome circuit.

The drop in air filter to replace my worn out stock paper element filter , low down torque seems to be lower but opens up the higher end and response sooner. What the heck it's only $20 bucks anyway lol

Just to updates for the folks that actually do come and see what's happening in Jason's life =). Thanks a lot

I've been knowing more people and opening myself rather than hiding in my own dream land and thinking about things i can't even control. Hence i joined a local car club called Evolve Motor club. We were parading in the Dubai grand racing event which was kinda cool where u get everyone cheering and clapping when u are zooming by the autodrome. I took lots of picture but i can only upload some now as connection is rather slow "under the tree".

And the brakes on my Z is wearing thin , hence i got Jonard's help to get me some really cool stuff ( thanks a lot Jonid) . Some Endless SSS brake pads and Greddy oil catch tank ( VQ engines has quite some blowby) . He got me a sweet deal from the folks in KL.

Well then knowingly there isn't a whole lot of people that races on the street nor am i allowed to modify anything due to the crazy bump in even small roads as high as a camel hump and the stupid RTA transportation registration regulations, i cant mod or lower my Z at all.

Hence i did the next best thing.

Yes rc car doesn't come cheap I already put RM2000 on it. but at least comparatively safer and cheaper than a real car so putting the real car mod to a halt until i can plonk more money out for the Z. no point putting out money still getting smoked by R8 , Gallardo and F430

Well this week has been officially the most stressful week ever with the first life encounter of friendly cunning colleagues . A life dose of reality of office politics , on just how simple someone tried to be nice with small chat end up to your boss as a complaint about your job. Messed up world it seems and a dog eat dog world out here.

Anyway back to what that makes me feel good the most. My Z and cars and going out with charmaine. So here are some pictures on the Evo i put deposit on, just if you guys want to know what is it all about but i pulled out after finding a cheaper deal and more money to save on a Z .

If only it was black or white , then i would surely fork out the 45k extra for it lol... silver a bit errr wuss . lol....

Well after all the ups and downs i can finally make a post here about dubai after getting here.

first of all , taxi here are CRAZY!!!! they drive like this

Overall , the experience is great. I got a brand new x61 lenovo laptop from the company ( luckily i didnt get another one * hint hint azim* ) lol . so now i have 3 friggin laptop , should sell one and get me a desktop gamer people is nice , my colleagues are superbly friendly. work hours quite flexible i can leave whenever as long as i meet all requirements everyday. oh here is how my current building looks like. real run down

and the new office comparison which is as big as mall of emirates with own restaurants in it. how cool is that *droool*

well , people here are different , it's so hard to find another asian other than an indian or philipino , if only i could see more malaysians around.

Well here it is , where I worked throughout my times in Wichita Kansas. I will now introduced to you all ladies and gentleman NIAR . Below is a brief history and the profile about the company if some of you are interested to know more about it.

Aviation has been in the blood of the Wichita community for decades, and since 1985, Wichita State University's National Institute for Aviation Research has been its pulse. Since that time, we have made a name for ourselves as one of the few state-of-the art aviation research centers in the United States recognized for our contributions to aviation safety and performance. We are proud to hold this unique status and to be part of the continuing research, technology and education available today.

NIAR is also proud to hold three FAA Centers of Excellence designations. Together, they promote the safety, research, manufacturing and design elements of today's aviation industry. These include the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation Research (CGAR), the Airworthiness Assurance Center of Excellence (AACE) and most recently a Center of Excellence in Composites and Advanced Materials (CECAM). In 2001, we were awarded the prestigious FAA Excellence in Aviation Institutional Award for our ability to partner with industry, academia and government to advance aviation research. We are also recognized as a Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation Center of Excellence.

Ok , let's move on to how I got here. I started out in the machine shop ensuring all the composite panels are in the correct specifications needed by the client company before being sent off to the testing department ( structures / fatigue lab) . Then I got transfered over to structures lab soon after to get some training in testing procedures used by FAA.

In the entrance of NIAR , this is what you will see. A chandelier of brass "paper airplanes" hung on the ceiling.

Here is where I initially started out , in the composite lab department where we make and lay up stuff like below

We have our very own autoclave ( another fancy term for giant oven just that we can control almost every variable for this chamber)

Then our own conditioning chamber to simulate an aircraft airborne in different environment to see how well the composite panel hold up to the forces of nature.

After 2 years of being in the composite labs , it's time to move on to learn the new ropes of ASTM static testing. I bring you structures lab , this is the entrance I see every morning .

and well within this high security area you'll find yourself loss in a jungle of giant hydraulic machineries used for testing.

Here is one of the scale down model of a cessna citation model aircraft used in our wind tunnel testing facility.

And lastly on each level of the building you will find pictures of airplanes that NIAR research was used in. You can find fighter jets to cargo planes and passenger planes along the hallway.and in case you don't know , even this plane below is part of NIAR contribution.

Yup , all those airplanes you sat on during your holidays , trips and business travel. I took part to make some part of it ( freaks you out doesn't it , he he he he).

My Farewell dinner with my Wichitans

Well it's that day of the time when you have to say farewell again to the people you met , the people that I spend almost 5 years of my time in Wichita KS. Putting it in closer terms , they are my family in USA. People that I hang out with , people I talk with when I'm sad , people that I drank with when I'm happy and most of all people who made a significant change in my life.

It was held at Lee's restaurant just off Dugan Road 5 minutes away from ICT ( Wichita airport).

One of the few punctual ones and not follow the Malaysian time , Jiasheen. ... I met him when I was back in KL studying in Taylors College. Really nice to the bone guy but rather quiet at times.

Then this guy Terrence Seet. Funny how I got to meet him through another friend who left , and now we're closer to him than the guy who left us. He came to Wichita alone not knowing a single soul but tried to send messages to everyone he can find on Friendster (now u know it's a tool to meet new people) which brought him to our group of crazy Malaysian * are ya regretting now? *

At almost 7.30pm , everyone arrived and the party started off with them chit-chatting while I'm trying to make sure everyone is getting what they want and small talks here and there.

These 3 people are related somehow back in malaysia and only got to know it recently *stoners* . Far left is Jun , the guy who spent the most crazy time with me ( playing Bb guns , real guns , 3am drifting , 4 am housing estate races , you get the point *) and then there is his gf evelyn and the naughty lil devil of the big devil.

This is my all so serious friend , always demand this and demand that he he . Ms.Darlene Tan from Klang, who is also the same person I work with in NIAR and cover my back when I'm late he he ( thanks a million Darlene , appreciate the time we worked together )

Then there is her bf , Sheun Wuay who is also another guy I met back in Taylors but wasn't quite close to him until he got here.

Then this is small thing ( her name is literally Sheau-Jy , pronounce that in mandarin and u'll get what i mean) senior malaysian who came back for her masters in IE . I don't know her for long but was in the same class in her this semester which ended FAST. be more hardworking oh girl

Not long later after the dinner , white Chardonnay started flowing , TO ME!!!! oh the horror of getting drunk again.

and 6 cups of downed wines later , you can see how red my face is *literally not a good drinker* and i'm gone.

Well that's it folks , it's thanksgiving week . so HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I look kinda sad below that I have to leave this group of merry , happy , crazy going friends that i have.

Woke up early Saturday to wax and wash her for one last time before I have to sell her away =~( she's been so kind to me and so enjoyable. I'll miss you lots my S2000.

Started out at the car wash to give her a good shower and 2 layers of wax with carnuba car wax and clay'ed bar.

Let me start off to show the most popular and famous thing that ever occured in Wichita , the 1st ever PIZZA HUT in the world was established here then there is a list more of giant companies like koch industries that actually started it's roots here in Wichita KANSAS.

It's re-located now inside Wichita State University as a historical monument for everyone to come see and take pictures of it. Without further ado let me show you where I spend almost 1/4 of my life studying =)

Last Track Day of the Year in Wichita =~(

The day started out wet and damp and was kinda cloudy too, most of the drivers were nervous about the wet condition as none has ever drove in the wet. The location is Hallett track located south of Wichita in Oklahoma.

What does a red valve cover mean to you? In the world of racing it's feared on the track as well as on the streets * hint hint kev , don't whack me for this*

The driver of the Civic , menacing on the track though but not in person *laughs*. Then we have the MR2 below which is equipped with a machine gun external wastegate, imagine even the SLK55 AMG also has to give way to it * no kidding man*.

Day after day is peeling away like falling autumn leaves for the time i spent here with friends before we part ways again. We'll definitely reunite for Merdeka Endurance Race for sure.

Another week gone , another week of memories made

Another week has gone by, time seems to pass faster when you want it to stand still just for a moment. The entire week, I've only tried to finish up my remaining projects before I leave and I'm swamped by medical examinations.

The worst ever was the dental checking , maybe it's Wichita but the experience of doing dental work here for the 1st time in 4 years is horrendous ( I'd usually wait till I get back to KL to do it one shot). To illustrate how bad was it , throughout the cleaning process the dentist and nurse actually had my whole face splattered with water coming out from my mouth. That's not even the worst part, then do not even have a small sink for me to gargle some water and spit the shit that came out from cleaning instead they just put a vac tube and asked me to close up my mouth. I'd never do it EVER AGAIN in Wichita. They even got the guts to pass me a bill of $200 for it.

Anyway, other than those medical examinations I was pretty happy the whole week as I get to shop shop shop and wait for my packages to come one by one. First one ever is my long list of books that i ordered ( never thought Jason read that much eh , you'd be surprised he he) anyway this was the first time i spent $500 just on books *ouch* .

I'd rather buy a diamond ear-ring or something just for the heck of it.

However , my list of new electronic toys just came in one by one =).

I call these my hill of gadgetry. I will do a review on each and everyone of them when all of them get here and when i can squeeze in some time to snap some nice shots of it.

Got myself 2 pair of Oakley's too thanks to Jeremy who said I look good in them ( always a sucker for words sigh*)

And my new Lenovo T61p laptop came as well. this is how my work desktop look at at the moment. Messy I know but it gets the work done ;)

Will update soon again on products review then to my journey to sell and pack things for Camel Country.

Real World , ready or not Here I come

The news has finally came in that I scored a job with the Emirates Group as an Industrial Engineer in Dubai. I'll be managing a group of other industrial engineers who will work under me for benchmarking processes and setting KPI with the accounting department and the list will go on.

Main point I will like to make this blog is to record part of my life which i regrettable never did when I was in Wichita and would like to document my experience working and living in the new land of Dubai. Hope some of you won't bore yourself out reading ye ol' Jason's life stories =).

Yup that is the palm island in the coast of Dubai being constructed and below is the world islands made famous by the shape it's laid out around to form the map of the world.

And finally, the only 7 star hotel in the world. The Burj Al-Arab.

Well so as of now , all I have to do is leave my life in Wichita , get a medical check up ( physical , blood test and all those crap to make sure you won't die anytime soon). Sounds pretty easy eh, but it's not that easy after all when my university and work place is giving me a hard time preventing me from breaking my GRA contract with them which will last until December 5th.

Up till now all I have in mind is getting prepared to head over to the Middle East, as I will have nobody to depend on and it will just be me and my new environment. Hence I start out shopping all the gadgets I need from USA and bring it over later on.

As of now , I've bought some new toys to pamper myself a wee bit . ( maybe a little too much)

(1.) Lenovo T61p laptop
(2.) Canon 400D dSLR with 18-55mm kit lens
(3.) Canon camcorder * cause i like night vision*
(4.) Some effin nice lenses ( Canon famous L lens , a portrait lens and a telephoto lens)
(5.) Ipod nano 8GB 3rd gen ( yes they finally convinced me to get one, so what the heck)
(6.) 2 new backpacks ( 1 for camera and 1 for both of my laptops)
(7.) PDA phone (1st ever and am trying to learn more about it)

Pictures and review( just what I think of them) will be up in 3 days time.

Well thats all for now , some of it is still in the boxes and some of it is out on my table but my room is too messy to allow any decent pictures.

I'll just post a picture of my friend Azim's living room ( he's a tech guy in our group as you can see) and also a walking encyclopedia. Just letting him tune up my Lenovo laptop for faster speed so i do not have to mess with it myself later.
